Good pizza starts with a good fire. Our pizza oven wood is cut from fallen trees and kiln dried for wood-fired cooking, steady heat, and the kind of flavor that makes pizza night feel worth the effort.

Using hardwood pizza oven wood makes for easier lighting, longer burns, and better control in your oven. Whether you are making pizza, bread, roasted vegetables, or fire-cooked meats, the right wood helps you build heat and cook with confidence.

Pizza oven wood for real wood-fired cooking

Made for cooks who want steady heat, real hardwood flavor, and a better fire from the first light.

Better Fire, Better Flavor

Pizza oven wood made for steady heat and real wood-fired taste

The wood you use has a big effect on how your pizza oven performs. Good pizza oven wood should light easily, burn steadily, and help your oven build the heat needed for crisp crust, bubbling cheese, and that warm wood-fired flavor people love.

Our wood is cut from fallen trees, not trees cut down just to become firewood. From there, it is kiln dried to reduce moisture, helping create a cleaner, more reliable burn than ordinary damp firewood. That means less struggling to keep the fire going and more time focused on the food.

Use it for pizza nights, bread, roasted vegetables, meats, and any meal that benefits from real hardwood flavor. Choose oak for a balanced, classic fire or hickory when you want a bolder, smokier finish.

Good questions

Frequently asked

What is the best wood for a pizza oven?

Hardwoods like oak and hickory are ideal for pizza ovens because they burn hotter, longer, and more consistently than softwoods. They also produce less smoke and create a stable cooking environment.

What is kiln-dried pizza oven wood?

Kiln-dried pizza oven wood is wood that has been dried in a controlled environment to reduce moisture content. This allows it to ignite quickly, burn hotter, and produce less smoke than traditional seasoned firewood.

Can I use regular firewood in a pizza oven?

You can, but it’s not ideal. Regular firewood often contains more moisture, which leads to inconsistent heat, excess smoke, and longer preheat times. Kiln-dried wood is specifically prepared for cooking performance.

If you do use other wood, make sure that it it dry, not rotten and does not have mold growing on it as this can adversely the outcome of your cooking. Also, be sure that the wood is food-safe.

Here are some common food-safe woods for cooking:

  • Oak
  • Hickory
  • Fruitwoods (Apple, Cherry, Peach)
  • Maple
  • Mesquite
  • Ash

Never use:

  • Pine
  • Fir
  • Cedar
  • Treated, painted or stained
  • Rotted or moldy
What size wood is best for a pizza oven?

Smaller pieces - typically 6 to 8 inches - are best for our pizza ovens. They are easier to manage, ignite faster, and allow for better control of heat and flame.

However, if you have a larger brick pizza oven, our cooking wood will be a good starter but then larger pieces may be needed to heat up the oven as the bricks soak in a lot of heat.
